Meet the Maker

CAN Period didn't begin as a brand idea. It began as a commitment to an important cause. As a new hospital foundation director on Kauaʻi, I was thrown into high-stakes fundraising with big goals and real doubt. My confidence was shaky, the goals were enormous, and doubt had a way of creeping into the room. During a goal setting meeting a local phrase was echoed, "If can, can. If no can, no can," and something clicked. It was powerful, but we needed more than "if." I knew the value of a cue word in a pivotal moments from my background racing bikes and working with sport pshchologists. So we leaned fully into CAN, with a giant period: CAN Period. No hedging. Just commitment. I wrote it on a 3x5 card with a $2 million goal and stuck it on my dashboard. We exceeded every goal and defeated every CAN’T. My wife, Angie, said to put it on shirts and a rallying cry became a brand. Today, CAN Period is everyday apparel rooted in a simple, powerful belief. - Andy Bestwick

Roots & People

Born in Kōloa on the island of Kaua‘i, Spirit of CAN. is rooted in friendship, purpose, and a shared commitment to overcome doubt. Andy got the brand off the ground, and together with Keali‘i and Makani helped grow it, brothers with the same positive mindset, grounded in where they come from. Today, Andy and his wife Angie lead from Las Vegas, the “9th Island,” after moving to support aging parents, while Keali‘i and Makani continue to carry the brand forward on Kaua‘i. No matter where we are, CAN. is what connects us.

Rooted in ʻOhana

Early on, Andy had the opportunity to be part of Leadership Kauaʻi, where he met one of his best friends and future business partner, Makani Taniguchi. Rooted in the Taniguchi ʻohana, Makani’s influence has helped shape Spirit of CAN. from the beginning, keeping the brand grounded in family, community, and a commitment to helping others. That connection to Kaua‘i life continues to guide the spirit, style, and purpose behind everything we create.

Hawyn

Kealiʻi Kaiminaʻauao, known as Hawyn, and Andy first crossed paths at the Kukuiʻula Market, where Kealiʻi performed and Andy sold CAN. merchandise. Those markets and moments turned into a friendship, and eventually a partnership.

Today, Kealiʻi serves as Chief Brand Ambassador of CAN. and has been instrumental in growing the brand on Kauaʻi, not just through his voice and presence, but through the way he lives the message every day. He, too, calls Kōloa home.

Through his company, Kupaʻa Construction, and his deep connection to the community, Kealiʻi represents what CAN. stands for at its core. Look for co-branded CAN. and Kupaʻa Construction pieces as we continue to build together.

Who We're For

Spirit of CAN. is for anyone who needs a reminder in the moment to choose CAN. We create products and designs you can reach for when it matters most, a simple cue to move forward, push through doubt, and stay in it.
This is for those who show up anyway. From classrooms to job sites to everyday life, for students, teachers, athletes, parents, and anyone in the middle of something hard. Moments like the one above at Kaua‘i High School, where CAN. was shared with students and the period in our logo was brought to life through the sound of a taiko drum, are a reminder of why it matters.
You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to keep going and always choose CAN.
